Petrol... Checked

The Implication of Petrol price increase

Most of the people I know are caught off guard by the recent increase in petrol price. Many of us feel the pinch (more like a slap on the face) when we need to fill up our gas tank. It used to cost RM65 for a full tank of petrol but now I need to top RM30 more. My car’s fuel consumption it’s not too bad, just around 22cents per kilometer.

I still remember the day before it happened. It’s just like any other Wednesday, I knocked off work early to catch a movie with my mom after dinner. The traffic was bad when I hit Jalan Tun Razak, I thought it’s just the usual traffic congestion but boy… I was wrong. I got stuck for an hour at Jalan Tun Razak, another hour at Jalan Kinabalu heading to Jalan Istana and one more hour to reach home. I was frustrated, bummed and pissed. I have one word to all the people who had caused the unnecessary jam by rushing to the petrol station for a last minute fill up, FUCDIOT! (f#@king idiot). You’ve wasted 1-2 hours queuing up for petrol which is going to save you a one time only… what… RM50?! But did you calculate the time and fuel wasted while waiting, and also the traffic congestion that you caused? Silly people…

Inhale… exhale… feel much better now… please pardon my potty mouth :P

Normally, I can go around 380km with one full tank but by applying a few changes to my driving habit, I’ve managed to increase it to around 450km. That’s 70km extra per full tank and 280km extra per month. Isn’t it wonderful :)

Driving tips:

  1. Only switch on the air-cond when it’s necessary. I usually drive to work and back without switching on the air-cond. It’s still cold in the morning, therefore I can make do without it and the weather in the evening it’s not too warm either, the most I’ll just sweat a little which I don’t mind at all because I’ll be taking a shower once I reach home.
  2. Keep to the speed limit. Speed devil please be kind to the accelerator. It’s proven that you’ll save 20-30% fuel traveling on 80kmph on a highway rather than 110kmph. So please adhere to the speed limit, drive smart and safe!
  3. Check you tyre pressures regularly. I used to check my tyre pressures once every month or whenever I feel something is not right. But now I do them fortnightly. An under inflated tyre can increase your fuel consumption.
  4. Drive smoothly. Minimize aggressive accelerating and braking which will save up to 40% of fuel!.
  5. Don’t need to warm up the engine in the morning. I used to do that every morning, revving my engine until the temperature needle goes up. It’s a waste of fuel and time. Just start the engine, make sure everything is working and drive straight off. There’s no winter in Malaysia, so warming up is unnecessary.

On an unrelated note, this is a new commercial directed by Yasmin Ahmad (i'm a big fan!) for Singapore Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports. Love the bra joke... quirky and heartwarming.

SPAM

Have been wanting to write about SPAM for a long time. By the way I’m not talking about the delicious chunk of canned meat adored by most people (my mum for one) but the annoying garbage emails you receive from people with tacky names like Mona Smiley, Daulat (Daulat who? I know Kaulat & Jialat only), Quinlan (needless to say more, Makes me feel so Tulan) and guess who else? Prince Valenzuela! A royalty who is very concern about my ‘tool’. FYI my ‘tool’ is very healthy and in great condition :P

*Yummy yummy SPAM*

Anyway, I have collected a list of funny ones and here they are:

First aid to man size? Put plaster kah? So it’s will look bigger is it?

She will dream of you every night. Initiate prodigious transformation…? What? My ‘tool’ can do algebra and calculus while conducting Beethoven’s Symphony #9? Don’t imagine please…. :P

Dear Rivkin, I don’t stand around to be mentally raped by someone OK. By the way, how do you that?

Dear Rogers, It’s either you haven’t learned about human reproduction in your early years in school or yours is actually thin?! Poor thing… Poor thing… His tool is the thinnest in town… Poor thing… Poor thing….

Whip out the big guns to satisfy her?! I never knew that you can satisfy someone by pointing a gun at them.

Dear Orval Clemons, Your parents must have a very wicked sense of humor. Ha ha…

Be well-hung like a camel. Crazy man… how to walk liddat?!

Over the rainbow my juice fly?! WTH?!

Fire up your rocket today. 3… 2… 1… Blast Off :P

This one is dem jialat… Feel the power in your pants. I got the power zezezeze ze ze zezezeze ze ze I got the power. XD wakakaka

There’s nothing in particular that I can’t live without. I always make do with what I have.

What is the sweetest thing a girl / guy has done for you?

Earth Hour

Another project brought to you by WWF.

Sir David Frederick Attenborough, the respected broadcaster and naturalist, once doubted that human is the predominant caused of environment change, but now being convinced by the irrefutable evidences, has actively participated in campaigns that create awareness on this issue on a global scale.

Created to take a stand against the greatest threat our planet has ever faced, Earth Hour uses the simple action of turning off the lights for one hour to deliver a powerful message about the need for action on global warming.

This simple act has captured the hearts and minds of people all over the world. As a result, at 8pm March 29, 2008 millions of people in some of the world’s major capital cities, including Copenhagen, Toronto, Chicago, Melbourne, Brisbane and Tel Aviv will unite and switch off for Earth Hour.

Here is a list of things we can do that make a difference to our environment.

Inflate Your Tires

Keep the tires on your car adequately inflated. Check them monthly

Use compact fluorescent light

Replace 3 frequently used light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs

Change Your Air Filter

Check your car's air filter monthly

Use Recycled Paper

Make sure your printer paper is 100% post consumer recycled paper.

Check Your Waterheater

Keep your water heater thermostat no higher than 120°F.

Change the AC Filter

Clean or replace dirty air conditioner filters as recommended.

Take Shorter Showers

Showers account for 2/3 of all water heating costs.

Install a Low-Flow Showerhead

Using less water in the shower means less energy to heat the water.

Buy Products Locally

Buy locally and reduce the amount of energy required to drive your products to your store.

Buy Minimally Packaged Goods

Less packaging could reduce your garbage by about 10%.

Buy a Fuel Efficient Car

Getting a few extra miles per gallon makes a big difference.

Carpool When You Can

Own a big vehicle? Carpooling with friends and co-workers saves fuel.

Don't Idle in Your Car

Idling wastes money and gas, and generates pollution. Except when in traffic, turn your engine off if you must wait for more than 30 seconds.

Reduce Garbage

Buy products with less packaging and recycle paper, plastic and glass.

Plant a Tree

It takes in carbon dioxide and produces oxygen..

Replace Old Appliances

Inefficient appliances waste energy.

Use a Push Mower

Use your muscles instead of fossil fuels and get some exercise.

Air Dry Your Clothes

Line-dry your clothes instead of using the dryer.

Bring Cloth Bags to the Market

Using your own cloth bag instead of plastic or paper bags reduces waste and requires no additional energy.

Turn off Your Computer

Shut off your computer when not in use. Conserve energy by using your computer's "sleep mode" instead of a screensaver.

Ditch the Plastic

2.5 million individual plastic water bottles are thrown away every hour in the US. Start using a reusable water bottle and just say no to plastic!

The PetPets

The weekend unofficially starts on Friday for me. Usually, I’m pretty much in the weekend mood by lunch time. Rest of the day will be dedicated to tying up loose ends before it accumulates into an uncontrollable clusterfcuk.

It has been a busy week. Report, report and more reports. W, the manager, is flying to Houston for 2 weeks. Had him to sign all the important documents like leave application :P, proposals and reports before noon time.

Done.

*phew*

Relax.

What should I do now? How about some music?

The Pipettes… who?

Yup, The Pipettes (like the laboratory instrument, but it sounds like petpet :P) are an indie girl group hails from UK. I like a few of their songs like ‘Pull Shapes’, ‘Your kisses are wasted on me’ and ‘ABC’. Very very infectious Petpet. It makes me wanna put on my dancing shoes and dance ala 60s. Groovy baby! Let’s dance!

Oink Oink

Happy Birthday to you

Oink Oink

Happy Birthday to you

Happy Birthday Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday to you

Oink Oink

That’s the song I learned from dining at El Cerdo yesterday. El Cerdo is pork in Spanish and being true to their name, the restaurant serves a large variety of pork delicacies like suckling piglet, pork chop, ham, goulash and plenty more.

CJ & I visited the famous pork restaurant to fill our tummies with porkielicious food after catching Vantage Point at TGV yesterday. We arrived to a full house but we’re very fortunate because the waitress managed to find us a table at the non-smoking section of the restaurant. We’re quickly seated by the attentive waitress and I must say I’m very impressed by their service. The restaurant is decorated with quirky pig memorabilia and posters. How Cute!

While we were browsing through the menu, a loud din startled us. We turned around and saw a patron throwing plates on to the floor. Flabbergasted, I signaled a waitress over and asked her what’s going on. She then explained to me in her limited English that according to an old Spanish tradition, diners are supposed to carve up the roast piglet using a plate before breaking the used plate into a bucket ‘for luck and prosperity’. Since there’re only 2 of us, we decided to try it out the next time with a bigger group.

They have an extensive menu of French/Italian food and wine! I ordered the Grilled Pork Chop Tenderloin con Queso Cabrales (Grilled & Gratinated with Ham & Spanish Blue Cheese on Homemade Garlic Pasta) and CJ opted for the Marinated Pork Shoulder Steak (Marinated for 48 hours with the Finest Paprika, Herbs, Onions, Garlic and Mild Dijon Mustard).

My pasta was cooked to ‘el dente’ and the pork & ham were simply porkielicious. CJ kept raving about his pork steak and the potatoes. After we finished our main course, a waiter brought us two complimentary shots of EL CERDO SPECIAL 22 %( A delectable Digestive consists of `Spirit, Wine and Juices). Suffice to say that we had a very satisfying meal and we’ll definitely come back again.

Oh and about the song. A guy next to our table was celebrating his birthday. The waitresses sang him a birthday song after presenting to him a cute mini pig chocolate cake :)
